2025 Student Art Contest Guidelines
"Advocacy Sin Límites"
The Bilingual Education Association of the Metroplex (BEAM) invites you to participate in our annual Bilingual/ESL Student Art Contest. The competition is open to all kindergarten through 12th grade emergent bilingual (EB) students.
THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS: January 17, 2025
TOPICS
Advocacy Sin Límites: Students will create art that illustrates how bilingualism empowers individuals to advocate for themselves, their families, or their communities. The artwork can reflect moments of breaking barriers, promoting inclusivity, or celebrating the strength of bilingualism in creating opportunities and connections across cultures.
CASH PRIZES
Cash prizes will be awarded to first place winners in each category, as follows:

Grades K - 5: $250

Grades 6 - 8: $500

Grades 9 - 12: $750
ELIGIBILITY
-
Participation in the contest is limited to students who are identified as Emergent Bilingual (EB) learners or reclassified EBs from Region 10 and Region 11

Participants must have a B average or better in core content areas as of the Fall 2024 semester

At least a 90% school attendance record
CRITERIA
Each art submission will be judged on:

Creativity and Originality – 25%;
-
Relevance to Theme – 25%;
-
Technical Skill and Execution – 25%; and
-
Overall Impact and Presentation – 25%
CONTEST RULES
Only entries that comply with the following rules will be considered:

Theme adherence: All entries must clearly relate to the theme "Advocacy Sin Límites." Works that do not fit the theme will not be considered.

Originality: Each entry must be the original work of the student. No copies of other artwork will be accepted.

Medium and Size: Only physical mediums (e.g., painting, drawing, collage, mixed media) are accepted. Digital art is not permitted. Maximum 2D size is 12” x 18”. Maximum 3D size is 16”H x 12”D x 16”W

Identification: Artwork must have the following: student’s name, grade, school, and teacher’s name.

Submission: Artwork will be turned in to the student's teacher and the teacher will fill out the online submission form linked on this page. The teacher will fill out the form and submit it with at least one image of the artwork (.jpg) and a cover page (student name, grade strand (K-5, 6-8, 9-12), art submission title, and a brief description of the artwork. If selected, the artwork will be scheduled for campus pick-up or dropped off at UNT Dallas on March 5, 2024. Schedule pick-up or drop-off with Matt Condon at competitions@beamdfw.org

Any entries received after the deadline will not be considered.

Any entries missing any information will not be considered.
SYMPOSIUM AWARDS
Winners will have their winning art submission showcased in the Symposium Program and be acknowledged at the BEAM Symposium on April 5, 2025.

Permissions: Each participant must grant BEAM permission to use his or her name, image, and art for the contest and acknowledge that images/art may be published or displayed.

Judging: A panel of judges will select the winners in each category. BEAM Board reserves the right to bestow or not to bestow the award for each category.

Deadline: All entries must be received by January 17, 2025 11:59 PM CST. Contest entries need to be submitted by the teacher. Applicants will be notified by February 22, 2025. Entries from students from all language backgrounds are encouraged.

Eligibility Disclaimer: BEAM committee members and their family members are not eligible to enter the contest. Family members of committee members include siblings, parents, significant others, children, grandchildren, and grandparents. Additionally, students of committee members, or students of family members of committee members, are not eligible to enter the contest.
